How Do You Clean Discoloured Stainless Steel Pots?

Suppose you have actually managed to keep your stainless steel pots free from stick on food and burn marks, then good for you. But, even after that, you might experience some of the rainbow-coloured discolourations or even some white calcium build-up on your stainless steel moka pots or any other pots. Restoring that classic glossy silvery look of the pots will work out pretty well for you. It will help your pot to remain in its good and proper condition well. There are some easy steps you can follow to restore its old colour. So, let’s learn a bit more about those points first.

Use vinegar to remove discolouration:

Vinegar happens to be one effective ingredient, which is used for ridding your pan of any unsightly discolouration, which is mainly caused by overheating. All you have to do is wash the pan with vinegar and then rinse it using water. That helps in removing discolouration from any Moka pot.

On the other hand, you can use the same ingredient, vinegar, for removing white calcium build-up stains too. For that, you need to make a mixture of one part vinegar to around 3 arts water and then boil in the affected pot. Then, let this mixture cool down completely. For the next step, empty the pan and wash it normally.

Using tomato sauce to remove discolouration:

From the last night’s service, you have some tomato sauce left which you are not going to eat any more. So, instead of throwing it off, use the tomato sauce for some good use. Use the sauce for removing discolouration from stainless steel pots and pans. The acidity from the tomatoes can clearly react well with the discolouration in your stainless steel items and will work more or less like vinegar.

  • To work on this method, at first, you have to fill the pot with tomato sauce. You can use crushed up tomatoes on the affected area too, and make sure it remains completely submerged.
  • Now you need to simmer the sauce gently for around 10 minutes. If the paste s too thick, you can add water to it, but be sure to not make it too runny.
  • For the last step, you have to remove the sauce and then rinse your pot normally as you do. You will see the difference like never before.
On an additional level, you can also try to leave the tomato sauce in the pan overnight if you don’t want to use gas and simmer the content. The result will be exactly the sam

General care is important:

It is true that you have invested a great deal of money in stainless steel pans. So, taking general care of it is really important. Once you are done shining your old pots, there are some steps to take to prevent such spots from addressing further. Prevent the water spots by drying out the pans right after washing. Make sure to never add salt to the water while it is boiling. Follow these steps and maintain the shine of your stainless steel pots.
